“I wish I could take the midwife home with me!” – well now you can!
About Me
My Story
I am a proud mum and step mum of five (now adult) children and Grandma to a growing brood!
Proud to be working alongside my daughter Katie who is also a Midwife and Lactation Consultant.
Qualifying as a Midwife in the UK, I gained a wealth of experience in all aspects of Midwifery care, in the home, in the community and in the hospital environment before emigrating to Australia in 2006.
My Community Midwife has experience working as a midwife in both the private and public sectors, I have further developed and extended my skills in the profession and after rigorous screening and further study I have successfully received notation as an Eligible Midwife, which means I have a Medicare provider number and PBS prescriber number. This means that you can choose to receive midwifery care from me and Medicare rebates apply to my services.
I am happy to say that I can now offer more choice to women with their antenatal and postnatal care by a dedicated and experienced midwife with excellent support from the obstetricians and paediatricians here in Townsville. I am happy to work in collaboration with any obstetrician by referral. I work safely, within my scope of practice and refer when appropriate within a multidisciplinary team.
My Philosophy
My midwifery care is based on my firm belief of the ability of women to give birth with dignity, in control of their birthing experience and with as much support as they need. I also believe that regular contact with known carers will enhance most women’s experience of childbirth and the 6 weeks following birth.
My professional goals include the provision of ongoing safe and effective ante natal and post natal care, working in collaboration with your obstetrician. I believe that the provision of education for women to prepare for birth, learn about breastfeeding and newborn behaviour will facilitate as smooth a transition to parenthood as is possible. Home visiting by a known midwife for 6 weeks after the birth of your baby will support you in your new role as a parent and increase your confidence through what can be a rollercoaster ride of dramatic emotions and new experiences.
‘my community midwife’ aims to meet the varying needs of the women in our community with safety and support of the existing health services. You now have the choice to have midwifery care at home and ‘my community midwife’ looks forward to providing that care as your Townsville Midwife!
